Brent “Hoops” Fuquay invited me to help coach at his camp in
Stanleville, NC. I did not hesitate to say yes. Brent, known as Coach
Hoops, has a unique ministry that uses basketball a medium to get the
attention of young people to learn about Jesus Christ. Coach Hoops does
basketball clinics all around American and any place around the world.
There is more information about Coach Hoops on his website, http://www.hoops.org.

There was kids ranging in grade levels kindergarten to seventh grade.
It is great to see young people so excited about basketball and
learning about the word of God. I am glad the parent realize the
importance of what Coach Hoops is trying to do. It is good to know that
good people like him come from around the place where I grew up. |

Benjamin did his thing at Wingate. First of all te city of Wingate is a
quaint secluded little college town. However the University is a top of
the line facility. The grounds were impeccable and there are a plethera
of brand-new buildings. This game was an exhibition between the Akron Winged Foots, a NABL travelling team and the Wingate university team.
I took some pictures of the action, but my camera is not that advanced
so you will have to make due with pictures that I did get to take.
Benjamin was surprised to see me, but you know I am always down to come
check him out while he schooling some cats in the fine art of
basketball-ology ( I made that up all by myself).

The Garnet Wilkerson Tournament at Du Bouis Center in Wake Forest, NC July 26-27 2004 was a great annual Pro-Am Tournament
put on in Wake Forest, NC. This tournament had plenty of talent there.
There were many professional players, college and prep players, and of
course former college players.
I played for the Supper Clubb basketball team. We went undefeated in
the first day of pool play. I was not able to attend the first game,
but I came on strong in the second game to help us achieve a victory.
This tournament was a great event to help us grow stronger as a team.
During the second day we must have ran out of steam. We had to play the
returning champs and we pumped out on them early. We had a commanding
lead to start the game. We did not want too look back. Some how we lost
out composure in the last 5 minutes of the game. The next game fatigue
got the best of us. We seemed tired and restless. We had spurts f good
play, but we did not have a consistent continuity in our offense. We
are a strong defensive minded team. I really like that, but fatigue got
in the way of us playing good defense. We have learned and will take
this knowledge into the rest of our season in the Chavis Pro-Am League
in Raleigh, NC. There is even more talent waiting on us there. There
will be college stars and NBA players. I am excited about our
possibilities.

SEBL(Southern Exposure Basketball League)
I went down to the Atlanta Southern Exposure Basketball League. I was
glad I was able to have great teammates and coaches. I really improved
my game in this league. There was a lot of up pace basketball. I saw a
lot of smooth shooters and high flyers. But don’t get me wrong; I got a
little flying in myself. One game I got three dunks. I am getting my
vertical leap back. My highest to-date is 38 inch vertical. Well its on
now! My next venture will be the City Basketball League in North
Carolina. I will put more updates about the SEBL on the official
website. |
